Woodend House
Set within the leafy surrounds of Rhondda Park in Woodend, this contemporary rural home is designed to feel grounded, calm, and deeply connected to its landscape and takes in some breath-taking views of Mount Macedon. The dwelling is composed of low-slung pavilions and sheltered outdoor rooms that frame gardens, invite northern light, and create a sequence of warm, lived-in spaces for everyday family life.
Drawing on a subtle 1970s architectural influence, the home embraces flat roof planes, expressed structure, and a strong indoor–outdoor connection reminiscent of Australian modernist project homes of that era. Simple, honest materials — masonry, lightweight cladding, timber posts and beams — are reinterpreted in a refined contemporary way, balancing nostalgia with restraint.
Internally, flat ceilings reinforce the home’s horizontal language while generous glazing and filtered light connect living spaces to the surrounding landscape. The planning prioritises connection and flow, with a central living spine linking private zones to communal areas, resulting in a home that feels both expansive and quietly protective.
