Darraweit Guim House
A bespoke, budget-conscious home design that demonstrates how a new build can be unique, compact, and perfectly tailored to the needs of its owners. The design focuses on making the most of every square metre, using only the floor area that is truly required, resulting in a home that is efficient yet highly liveable.
By taking a first-principles approach to sustainable design, the home carefully responds to the site slope, street frontage, and solar orientation. Multiple vantage points within and around the house create a strong connection to the landscape, helping the building feel naturally grounded in its setting.
Early engagement with the builder ensured the design process was cost-effective from the start, allowing careful budget management without compromising on quality. Structural choices were made strategically to keep overall costs down, freeing up budget to invest in the “nicer things” that make this home truly special.
This project highlights how thoughtful building design in the Macedon Ranges can deliver a stylish, site-responsive home that balances affordability, sustainability, and individuality.
