Kyneton South House
This contemporary rural home in Kyneton South, within Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, is conceived as a collection of simple gable pavilions linked by glazed connections and sheltered outdoor zones. The planning separates private bedroom wings from generous open-plan living spaces, balancing retreat with connection and creating a home that feels both expansive and intimate within its landscape setting.
The architectural form draws on a modern interpretation of agrarian sheds, using restrained detailing and a muted material palette to sit comfortably within the regional context. Vertical cladding, deep window reveals and covered alfresco areas create strong indoor-outdoor relationships while offering protection from sun and weather — ideal for rural living in the Macedon Ranges climate.
Inside, raked ceilings and full-height glazing bring light deep into the living spaces, framing garden and long-range views. The main living zone is anchored by a feature fireplace, adding warmth and texture to the otherwise calm, contemporary interior palette of timber, soft neutrals and clean-lined joinery.
Sustainability is embedded throughout the design, including solar orientation, rooftop photovoltaic panels, high-performance glazing and deep eaves for passive shading. Cross-ventilation, energy-efficient systems and durable low-maintenance materials all contribute to a high-performing rural home designed for long-term environmental resilience in the Macedon Ranges region.
