Kyneton House

This custom-designed residential home in Kyneton was developed to support multi-generational living through thoughtful planning, strong connections to outdoor space, and a clear response to site orientation. North-facing openings are strategically positioned to maximise natural daylight and passive solar gain, improving comfort and reducing reliance on artificial heating and lighting. The layout balances shared family areas with quieter, private zones, allowing the home to adapt as family needs change over time.

At the centre of the design is an internal courtyard, which brings light, air and landscape deep into the home while providing a protected outdoor space usable throughout the year. The courtyard strengthens visual connections between living areas and supports natural ventilation, enhancing indoor comfort. Timber pergolas extend key living spaces into the garden, offering shading, weather protection and a strong indoor–outdoor relationship that suits the regional climate of the Macedon Ranges.

The external form is expressed through a robust combination of metal cladding and natural timber, selected for durability, low maintenance and long-term performance. These materials give the house a contemporary yet grounded character that sits comfortably within its Kyneton residential context. Guided by passive design principles, material honesty and a strong connection to landscape, the project reflects a considered approach to regional residential architecture that supports family life across generations.
